Special family moments mark Barack Obama's big day

He might be the most powerful man in the world, but to his two young daughters Barack Obama is still just dad. And as the 44th president of the United States was sworn in on Tuesday, he got the seal of approval from his younger child, seven-year-old Sasha, in the form of a broad smile and a big thumbs up.

Standing among an estimated three million people as their father was inaugurated at a historic ceremony on Capitol Hill must have been an exciting experience for Sasha and ten-year-old Malia. The girls seemed perfectly at ease, though, as they stood alongside their mum, new First Lady Michelle.

At one point Sasha, dressed in a pink coat and orange scarf, jokingly pretended her hands were binoculars to scan the huge crowd, while Malia - already known as the budding photographer of the family - recorded the day for the family album on her camera.

In a sign of how close-knit and down-to-earth the new First Family are, they invited some of the 100 relatives and friends in Washington for the occasion to join them for a mass sleep-over for their first night in the White House.
