Queen Maxima's girls eager for some seaside fun at the start of summer holidays

Photographs of Princess Maxima, her husband Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and their three girls made for some great summer snaps for the family album this week, as the royals spent time at a windswept beach near Wassenaar, just outside The Hague. The stars of the show were undoubtedly Princesses Amalia, five, Alexia, four and their little sister, two-year-old Ariane.

Dressed identically in jeans and pretty white tops, the three blonde girls – who all bear a strong resemblance to mum Maxima - were picture perfect as they played in the sand with their mum and dad. The annual summer photo session took place at Meindendel beach to the south west of Wassenaar, where the royals' Eikenhorst villa home is located.

Armed with buckets, spades and beachballs, the hands-on parents were only too happy to help out with sand castle-construction, joining the girls as they got to work.

For their two eldest daughters, school is officially out until August 24, leaving them plenty of time for fun at the beach.

But dad Willem-Alexander did reveal that Alexia - who began her education in June - is not so happy about the holidays. Apparently, she is enjoying lessons so much she is keen to get back to class.
