Now, in the ultimate coup for the veteran director it's reported that Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has accepted an offer to appear in one of his projects.
The filmmaker is thought to have offered France's first lady a role in the film, to be shot in 2010, during his visit to Paris earlier this year when he met Carla, a model-turned-singer, and her husband President Nicolas Sarkozy.

"She is an accomplished artist, she is very beautiful and I am sure she would have a gift for comedy.
"I am sure she would be marvellous. She has charisma and is used to appearing in public."
While she released an album during her marriage, the chatelaine of the Elysee Palace has sworn off big promotional tours in deference to her husband's office.
The premiere dame has limited performances to TV shows like Jools Hollands' programme when she shared a stage with heavy metal outfit Metallica and one high-profile concert in honour of Nelson Mandela.
But she may be tempted on to the screen by Woody's promise that the cameo "would cause no problems… with the image of France".
