For Crown Prince Frederik, his brother Joachim and wife Marie it was business as usual with standard black tie dress code.
But the other members of the Danish royal family were more colourfully dressed at a joint engagement on Wednesday.
The party were gathered in the gardens of Fredensborg Castle to celebrate wildlife charity WWF's 40th anniversary in Denmark.
Frederick's glamorous wife Mary stood out with a floor length psychedelic print dress.
And her in-laws Queen Margrethe, known for her fashion forward choices, and her husband Henrik also eschewed their normal regalia in favour of custom Chinese dress.
WWF's panda mascot is an endangered species native to certain regions of China, so that may have inspired the royals' choice.
The party mingled with 241 guests who each paid £500 to attend the sumptious soiree, with all proceeds being donated to the charity.
