Kate Middleton and Prince William have reportedly drawn up a shortlist of names for their baby, but are waiting until he or she is born before making a final decision.
Even when the royal baby does arrive it may be a while before the name is revealed to the public. Prince William’s parents Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales, waited a week before revealing the name of their first-born son.

It took two weeks for Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, to settle on the name Princess Beatrice. The Queen took longer – one month – before revealing that she had chosen the name Charles for her eldest child.
Royal commentator Alastair Bruce suggests that Elizabeth and Victoria are real possibilities because of their historical use in the royal family. But, he points out that the royal baby could change their name when they come to the throne, like the Queen’s father, Prince Albert, who became known as King George VI.
It’s not just royalty that take a while to reveal their children’s names. Hollywood star Uma Thurman and London-based financier Arpad Busson welcomed a daughter in July 2012, but took three months to reveal the little girl’s name. "I would like to announce Uma and Arki's daughter's name for the first time officially: Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence Thurman-Busson, better known to family and friends as Luna," said her spokesperson.
Uma also has children Maya Ray, 15, and Levon Roan, 11. The Kill Bill actress said her eldest daughter helped her justify choosing so many names for her child. "My daughter came up with the best excuse, which was that I probably wouldn’t get to have any more children, so I just put every name that I liked."
Other celebrities have deliberately kept their children’s names out of the spotlight. True Blood stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer welcomed a twin boy and girl in September 2012, but were reluctant to reveal any details about the babies. Stephen only let slip the names at the premiere for the six season of True Blood on 11 June 2013, when he was asked what his Father’s Day plans were and he replied "hanging out with Charlie and Poppy."
