Sarah, Duchess of York has congratulated her former husband Prince Andrew on joining Twitter, making him the first member of the British royal family to join the social media site."@SarahTheDuchess @thedukeofyork congratulations on joining twitter so exciting lots to say great event with Novak Djokovic," she posted in the early hours of Tuesday morning.Sarah, 53, made reference to both the British royal and the tennis star in her tweet as she was attending a star-studded gala dinner in London, hosted by Novak Djokovic himself and his swimwear model girlfriend .

Although Sarah is following her former husband on Twitter, Prince Andrew, father to the couple's daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, has not yet followed his ex-wife back.Using the handle @TheDukeOfYork, he has already accumulated over 21,000 followers in less than 24 hours. He has, however, been more selective with who he follows and has chosen less than 100 accounts to follow. "Welcome to my Twitter account – AY," he tweeted, and gave a disclaimer that if tweets are signed "AY", they will have been written by Prince Andrew himself. With a total of five tweets, his introductory post was the only message that he has personally written.

Other royal members around the world have been quicker to jump on the Twitter bandwagon to increase their global presence.Queen Rania of Jordan, who has nearly three million followers, and Princess Mette-Marit of Norway are frequent users of the social media platform, and often use their accounts to support initiatives promoted by their organisations.Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece, meanwhile, is a savvy user of Instagram, and enjoys uploading images of her family, friends, pets, and celebrations.
