Princess Mary and Prince Frederik return to the city where they fell in love

Princess Mary and Prince Frederik of Denmark were given the warmest of welcomes on Thursday when they arrived in the city where they fell in love, Sydney.

Thousands gathered outside the iconic Opera House, bearing both Danish and Australian flags to welcome Princess Mary back to her home country.

Dressed in a chic blue and cream printed dress Mary looked princess-perfect as she helped celebrate the Danish-designed Opera House's 40th birthday.

Prince Frederik met Tasmanian marketing consultant Mary Donaldson back in 2000 when he attended the Sydney Olympic Games and the royal couple have since visited Australia several times.
