The seven-month-old tot and his unnamed childminder were pictured going out for a stroll in London's Hyde Park, where George was being pushed in a pram.
First-time parents William and Kate will no doubt be missing their son, but it looked like the young prince was in good hands.
The new nanny is getting to know George's routine and habits while Prince William and Kate are away
"Every now and then the nanny stopped to check on the baby and make sure he was wrapped up warm in the chilly weather," a source told Daily Star. "There was a personal protection officer with her as they walked, with more following them, and there were police cars patrolling the park."
The new nanny, who is thought to have started with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge last month, is being shown the ropes by Kate's mum Carole Middleton as well as William's childhood nanny Jessie Webb.
Prince George will be a mere eight-months-old on his debut tour overseas
While William and Kate have been away, the new nanny has been getting to know George's routine and habits. For the majority of next month's trip Down Under, the third-in-line to the throne will be in the care of his nanny while his parents attend royal engagements.
As George will be a mere eight-months-old when he makes his first official trip overseas, the young tot will not be making many public appearances but may take the spotlight on a few occasions.
"One or two engagements across the three weeks have been identified as times when the Duke and Duchess might take Prince George along, too," William's private secretary Miguel Head told a press briefing.
"I'm sure you will appreciate that the couple will have to make a final decision on those moments much closer to the time. The Duke and Duchess are content enough to know that he will be with them in the two countries."
Prince William and Kate may take George to some royal engagements in Australia and New Zealand
The new nanny was one of the confirmed staff who would be accompanying the royal family, as well as the Duchess' private secretary Rebecca Deacon, three press officers, a tour secretary, a personal assistant and a hairdresser among others.
The entourage will be abroad from Monday 7 April to Friday 25 April.
