William and Kate's entrance evokes memories of Prince Charles and Diana with their baby Prince Down Under

As Prince William and Kate Middleton got their official tour of New Zealand and Australia underway with Prince George, the sweet pictures of the family of three embarking the plane in Wellington brought back memories of royal past, dating back over 30 years. When William was about the same age as George is now, he accompanied his parents on a trip Down Under – wriggling happily in his mother's arms as they arrived at Alice Springs airport. Although Charles and Diana were dressed more casually than William and Kate this week in Wellington, the clear similarity between the two outings is that both sets of parents clearly dote on their baby sons.

History repeats itself: just as William is the apple of his daddy's eye, so is baby George today. Photo: © Getty Images

Just like Kate, Diana combined her royal duties with her role as a mother - there was absolutley no question that baby William would be left in the UK. Photo: © Getty Images
