The image was captured by world-renowned British photographer David Bailey CBE at Buckingham Palace in March, in the run up to the monarch's birthday.
The black and white photo shows Her Majesty beaming at the camera in a relaxed fashion, wearing a dress by her royal designer Angela Kelly and a string of pearls around her neck and a pearl brooch.
David Bailey's image was commissioned as part of the government's GREAT campaign and will be used to support the national campaign, which aims to generate jobs and growth through highlighting internationally Britain as a world-class destination for trade, tourism, investment and education.
David, 76, who has been photographing celebrities, royals and other famous faces for more than 50 years, was suggested by the government.
"Bailey's name was suggested by Number 10 and the GREAT campaign and the Queen agreed," revealed a Buckingham Palace official.
"She has very kind eyes with a mischievous glint," said David of his subject. "I've always liked strong women and she is a very strong woman."
