Dressed in a nautical striped top, a navy blazer, trousers and wedge heels, Princess Mary posed with her family as they prepared to set off on the trip which will see them stop off at Igaliko, Narsaq, Alluitsup Paa, Nanortalik and Qaqortoq.
The family embarked on their holiday after enjoying a day out together at Legoland on Wednesday.
Denmark's future king and queen had a blast at the amusement park with their children and nephews having headed out on a bright, sunny day from Grasten Palace in south Jutland, where they usually spend the summer.
Australia-born Mary took charge of three-year-old twins Vincent and Josephine, while Frederik tackled a rollercoaster with Prince Christian, eight, and Princess Isabella, seven, who were both seen screaming and laughing in excitement.
Princes Nikolai and Felix, whose father is Frederik's brother Prince Joachim, also joined the group as did Frederik's cousin Princess Alexandra and her two children.
The Danish royals recently released a series of official images of themselves relaxing in the idyllic grounds of their summer residence, Grasten.
