While her husband King Felipe VI flew back to Spain, Queen Letizia stayed behind in Rome to attend an international conference on Thursday morning. The reigning couple had arrived in Italy the day before for an official visit.

Letizia, 42, oozed confidence as she arrived at the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) headquarters. The royal had been asked to deliver a speech at a summit on malnutrition, organised by the UN – the Second International Conference on Nutrition.

As she made her grand entrance, Letizia courted all attention in a smart, brocade red dress. The queen, who gained her new title in June when her husband Felipe ascended the throne, added height to her figure with a pair of matching red heels.

She completed her glamorous look with a slick of red lipstick, and swept her hair into an understated yet elegant low bun.

After being greeted by the FAO's director-general Jose Graziano da Silva, Letizia posed for photos in front of the organisation's constitution.

Once inside the Plenary Hall, the royal was given the floor where she spoke in front of political leaders and VIP representatives from 190 countries. The Spanish beauty impressed with her impassioned words and commanded all attention as she stood on the podium.

Letizia was speaking on the second day of the three-day conference. The aim of the meeting was to tackle the problem of malnutrition, with a specific focus on the poorest and most vulnerable households in developing countries.
