Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on Thursday with a trip to RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland.  The royal couple arrived in Elgin by train and were met by Lieutenant Colonel Grenville Johnston, the Lord Lieutenant of Moray, and the general public, with one young child handing the Queen a posy of flowers.

Wearing an elegant lilac coat by Karl Ludwig, and a hat with matching tartan trim by Angela Kelly, the Queen was all smiles as she made her way to the RAF base with her husband, who recently returned from Germany where he presented troops with medals.

As the pair arrived at RAF Loosiemouth they were welcomed with a flypast of two Tycoons and a Tornado jet, before the Queen unveiled a plaque at the newly-built Quick Reaction Alert facility.

It is the second visit to the base for the Queen, who also visited in 2003. The base provides a quick response in the event of unidentified aircrafts in northern airspace.

There, they met pilots and their families, with eight-year-old Lennon Gallagher being given the opportunity to gift the Queen with flowers.

He said: "I got the day off school to give the Queen flowers.

"She said 'thank you, they’re so beautiful'."

THE QUEEN AND PRINCE PHILIP CELEBRATE 67 YEARS OF MARRIAGE

Three years away from reaching their platinum anniversary, the pair have seen the country go through many changes in their 67 years of marriage.

In 1947, rationing was still in place when Elizabeth and Philip's nuptials took place two years after WWII had finished. Ahead of the wedding, excited brides-to-be from around the country sent the Princess extra coupons so she would be able to have her perfect gown.

However, she returned all the coupons following protocol and was allowed an extra 200 by the Government.
