Danish and Japanese royals come together in Tokyo

Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik's three-day tour of Japan came to an end on Saturday and the couple were bid farewell by the Emperor and Empress of Japan. The Danish and Japanese royals came together to dine at the Akasaka Palace in Tokyo ahead of Mary and Frederik's departure.

Mary, 43, looked effortlesly elegant in a burgundy dress, grey suede court shoes and a matching bag. The Tasmania-born princess wore her glossy brown locks in a sleek half-ponytail, revealing a dazzling pair of diamond earrings.

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko hosted the Danish royals

Japan's Empress Michiko sported a chic cream skirt and matching jacket while her 81-year-old husband Akihito opted for a smart grey suit.

Earlier in the day the couple, who were visiting Japan with the aim of promoting the Danish territory of Greenland, stepped out at the Spiritual Greenland exhibition in the capital city. Frederik was spotted cracking a smile as his Australian wife played in a replica igloo – pretending to come to the door and meet him.

The couple were in high spirits during their day of engagements

Denmark's crown princely couple, who tied the knot in 2004, began their tour on Thursday and upon their arrival were swiftly whisked off to attend a national Greenlandish concert and dinner in the city.

The following morning the couple toured the Kyu Asakurake Jutaku garden to meet with officials and help increase awareness about school bullying.

Mary and Frederik were in Japan to promote the Danish territory of Greenland

Also on Mary and Frederik's agenda during their visit were seminars on the production of fish and shellfish and the Arctic – where the Greenlandic visions for the region were presented along with discussions for cooperative efforts between both countries.

Friday saw Prince Frederik give a speech on Greenland to representatives from the Japanese tourism industry at the Palace Hotel followed by a sailing tour around Tokyo Bay and a presentation about how Tokyo is preparing for the 2020 Olympic Games.
