As she prepares to welcome her fifth great grandchild any day now, the Queen couldn't hold back her excited smile during an appearance at Newbury racecourse. Beaming and breaking into laughter as she sat in the stands at the Berkshire sporting venue, Britain's monarch appeared in high spirits.The 88-year-old sported a vibrant magenta coat, a matching hat adorned with a silver flower and black court shoes.Making the most of the good weather, the Queen strolled around in the sunshine and stopped to chat to trainer Richard Hannon and jockey Richard Hughes.

It was a good day for the equestrian enthusiast, whose horse Ring of Truth came in second position at the The Al Basti Equiworld EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes.The royal sporting success came less than a week after the Queen's granddaughter Zara and her husband Mike Tindall celebrated their racehorse Monbeg Dude coming third at the Grand National."I'm lost for words and emotions," tweeted Mike, who won £105,000 as a result of his horse's win. "All I can say is yes the dude!!!!!"

The Queen is no doubt eagerly awaiting the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's second child – especially given that her own birthday is on 21 April. The sovereign will turn 89 on Tuesday, while the Duchess is busy preparing to welcome a new member to the royal family any day now.Kate is spending the final stages of her pregnancy at Kensington Palace in order to be close to the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington. Prince William, meanwhile, will continue his work with the Air Ambulance up until his wife goes into labour and faces a last-minute dash to be by her side when Prince George's brother or sister is born.While it's possible that the new royal baby may make their way into the world on the Queen's birthday, there's also the chance that it will be born on William and Kate's fourth wedding anniversary on 29 April.
