With the wedding of Prince Carl Philip of Sweden and his fiancée Sofia Hellqvist fast approaching – and having just entered wedding season – HELLO! Online takes a look back at the most iconic gowns royal brides have worn in the past few decades.
The dress that the Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, wore at her nuptials to Prince William in 2011 remains a firm favourite among women who are looking for bridal inspiration.
Kate expressed her desire to combine modernity with tradition in her gown, which was designed by English legend Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. The result was an exquisite creation that featured a nipped-in waist, lace sleeves, floral motifs and a full flowing skirt and train.

Following her marriage to William, Kate has transformed into the perfect princess and it seems that bride-to-be Sofia is also warming up to her royal role. The Swedish stunner has flaunted an impeccable style at events leading up to her wedding to Carl Philip – but what will Sofia wear on her big day?
The 30-year-old may take a leaf out of Kate's book and opt to wear a designer from her native country. If Sofia does choose to wear a Swedish designer she would also be following in the footsteps of her future sister-in-law Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, who donned a sleek dress by Pär Engsheden at her wedding to Daniel Westling in 2010.

Victoria's younger sister Princess Madeleine, however, chose to walk down the aisle in Valentino. While Sofia will most likely not wear the Italian brand, Valentino has fast become the go-to designer for several royal brides.
Valentino Garavani stepped out of retirement specifically to create Madeleine's gown, which was made from pleated silk organza with appliquéd Chantilly lace. The princess, who is due to give birth to her second baby with businessman Chris O'Neill any day now, looked absolutely gorgeous on her special day.

Argentine-born Máxima, who regularly wears Valentino to high-profile events, looked flawless in a beautifully structured cowl-neck Mikado silk gown, which was finished off with a five-metre train.
Valentino, who also designed Queen Máxima of the Netherlands' wedding dress, called the gown "extremely sumptuous and regal"
