Kate will have received scores of Christmas party invites but one gathering she couldn't turn down was the one held by the Anna Freud Centre in north London. The Duchess of Cambridge, who has shown her support for the children's charity, has confirmed her attendance at their Family School Christmas Party.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte's mum will return to the centre on Tuesday 15 December. She will join children in their festive activities, to reflect the positive progress they have made this term.

Kensington Palace made the announcement via Twitter, adding that Kate's visit shows her continued interest in child mental health and early intervention support for the whole family.

After giving birth to Princess Charlotte in May, the Duchess chose to mark her return to royal duty by visiting the Anna Freud Centre in September.

Looking relaxed and on good form, Kate, 33, toured the Family School and learnt about how the charity helps children and young people who suffer with mental health problems. The charity provides support in homes and schools and also has its special clinic in London.

During the visit Kate was greeted warmly by chairman of the trustees Michael Samuel – the husband of Princess Diana's friend Julia Samuel, who is Prince George's godmother.

Kate has long been championing the issue of child mental health and has carried out a string of related engagements this autumn.

Last month Kate and Prince William spent the day in North Wales where they saw a project run by charity Mind and paid a visit to the Men's Shed movement in Denbigh, a nationwide initiative that aims to improve the mental health and wellbeing of young men.

Kate also recently spoke at the Head Teacher School Conference run by children's charity Place2Be. The conference – entitled "My Head Is Too Full" – was being held to discuss what schools can do to support children's mental health.

But it hasn't been all work and no play for Kate. Last week the Duchess was spotted catching up with her younger sister Pippa and her mum Carole, enjoying an alfresco meal at Clos Maggiore in Covent Garden.
