Christmas promises to be an extra special occasion for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this year as they celebrate as a family of four for the first time. The royal couple have already been making preparations to ensure the day is as enjoyable as possible for their children Prince George, two, and Princess Charlotte, seven months.

The Duchess, née Kate Middleton, has been spotted shopping for lights and baubles with George, who is said to be "bouncing around like a rabbit" with excitement about the big day. His proud father Prince William made the revelation in a recent interview with The Big Issue, during which he also gave a glimpse into how the family will be celebrating.

William and Kate will celebrate their first Christmas as a family of four

"We'll go to church as a family on Christmas Day, as we always do," William said. "Then we'll watch George try to tackle his presents as he tries to unwrap them. It's a very different experience at Christmas, having a family of your own."

As he is now a bit older, Prince George may join his parents to attend the Christmas Day church service at St. Mary Magdalene Church on the Sandringham estate. The young royal was absent from last years' service as Kate explained: "You would have heard him in the church".

While it is unlikely that Princess Charlotte will attend the service, royal fans may soon get another glimpse at the youngest member of the royal family if William and Kate choose to release a Christmas portrait of their family as they have done in previous years.

Adorable George was the star of the family's Christmas photos in 2014, but it is likely that this year he will star alongside his baby sister in the first photos of them together since Princess Charlotte's christening in July.

In previous years William and Kate have joined the Queen and other members of the royal family for Christmas lunch, but it is thought that they may play host to Kate's family including siblings James and Pippa, and parents Michael and Carole Middleton this Christmas.

Doting grandmother Carole has recently revealed her tips for a magical Christmas in Baby London magazine – advice she may follow to ensure Princess Charlotte's first Christmas is a memorable occasion.

"Relax and enjoy baby's first Christmas," she wrote. "They won't remember it, but you'll have fond memories."
