Making her last stop on her Let Girls Learn tour on Thursday, Michelle Obama landed in Spain and was greeted by Queen Letizia – resulting in a serious fashion face-off. First Lady Michelle has been busy highlighting the importance of education for young girls in poorer countries, and looked radiant in white when she arrived in Madrid.

The 52-year-old paid homage to Spain in a pretty DELPOZO summer dress that fell just below her knees, which she teamed with stylish metallic sandals. Meanwhile Letizia, 43, made a statement in a red Nina Ricci dress and completed her look with nude court heels.

Michelle and Letizia toured the gardens of Zarzuela Palace together, posing for a set of gorgeous photographs. The last time the Spanish royal saw US President Obama's wife was in September 2015, at a Washington gala, and the pair seemed happy to be reunited.

After their catch up, the two women headed to the Matadero culture centre in the Spanish capital to speak to a group of 600 young women about education around the world.

Talking first, Michelle explained: "Every one of us has the power and obligation to be a champion for girls around the world. In countries like Spain and the United States, men and women are often held to very different standards."

Letizia took to the stage after Michelle, and started her speech by paying tribute to the victims of the horrific terror attack at an Istanbul airport on Tuesday evening, which killed at least 42 people.

She said: "I think today, we are all clear that the education of girls transforms, protects and is productive." Letizia added that we need to nurture "the talent, energy and intelligence of millions of girls around the world."

Michelle, accompanied by daughters Sasha and Malia, started her educational trip in Africa, stopping in Liberia and Marrakech.
