Llamas, land and plenty of laughs: Inside the Queen's Diamond Jubilee gift list

Presenting the Queen with a gift able to stand out from the euphoria of her Diamond Jubilee is no small task. But when her Majesty looks back on a year full of pomp, parties and presents, there are a few candidates likely to stand out. According to an official gift list released by Buckingham Palace, the sovereign had a live baby llama bestowed on her by one unspecified giver. And in keeping the theme of bio-diversity, she also had part of Antarctica renamed in honour.

Queen Elizabeth Land sprawls over 169,000 square miles and is almost twice the size of the UK. The arctic tundra was previously unnamed, but as of 2012 it bears one of the most recognised titles in the world. The list also featured some kitsch items for the royal household. In a nod to monarch's love of corgis, she was presented with a knitted tea cosy depicting her beloved canines. The dogs themselves were not forgotten, and their owner was fittingly given a dog's bed in the shape of a crown.   These comedy gifts can sit alongside the many others that the Queen has received – from other members of the Windsor clan. Underpinning the splendour of the royal family's festive Sandringham gatherings is the exchange of light-hearted Christmas gifts.  The Duchess of Cambridge reportedly bought her brother-in-law Prince Harry a 'grow your own girlfriend' kit, while Harry himself is said to have presented his grandmother with a plastic slogan bath hat.

Of course, the monarch's Diamond Jubilee gift list includes items that the Queen can cherish as well as chuckle over. Her stint as a Bond girl will be remembered when she looks at a boxed set of gold, silver and bronze Olympic medals which came courtesy of the International Olympic Committee's president, Jacques Rogges. And the Obamas' 1950s inspired silver compact from iconic luxury jewellers Tiffany and Co will surely take pride of place in the palace dressing room.
