Prince William charms children during storytelling time in Birmingham

Fresh from his rockstar performance alongside Taylor Swift and Bon Jovi on Tuesday night, Prince William had a full day of engagements in Birmingham on Friday. The famously friendly Duke of Cambridge began by meeting staff and young residents at St Basils, a charity that works with young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming so. "A lot of laughs coming from the young people Prince William is speaking to as he visits @stbasilscharity in #Birmingham today," tweeted royal photographer Chris Jackson.

After receiving a warm welcome from local schoolchildren, the 31-year-old toured the facilities and learned how St Basils is working with the City of Birmingham and Centrepoint, of which the Duke is Patron, for the End Youth Homelessness campaign.

The former RAF helicopter pilot joked about his scene-stealing performance on Tuesday night saying "I'm not doing that again. "The new dad then travelled into the city centre to tour the newly opened Library of Birmingham where he took part in a children's reading group. The proud father opened up about his four-month-old son George, who he said has "very chubby cheeks", revealing that he likes looking at picture books.

Children from Chandos Primary School were wide-eyed as they watched the future King take part in a storytelling session.

While at the library he also met young entrepreneurs and listened to a poetry recital.

His third and final engagement of the day saw him visit Summerfield Community Centre and South and City College Birmingham.

At Summerfield he met privately with people affected by the 2011 disturbances in the city and chatted to those working in the areas affected. William previously visited the area in the aftermath of the trouble.

While at the college, which has recently undergone a £3 million investment, he toured the newly refurbished centre and spoke to people who have worked to promote community cohesion.

Since William left the RAF, he has taken on many more royal engagements and his wife Kate has also increased her work load.

Last night she dazzled the SportsAid annual gala dinner in London where she presented the One-to-Watch Award to 16-year-old shooter Amber Hill.

Although royal correspondents reported that William was left at home looking after Prince George, it later emerged that he had also been at work.
