The coastline isn't only made up of sand and surf, though, as the spectacular "Los Gigantes" cliffs are also a popular tourist attraction. Those energetic enough to climb Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak, will meanwhile be rewarded with breathtaking views over the other islands of Gran Canaria, La Palma and La Gomera. There is also plenty on offer for families, with the water rides and slides of Aqua Park providing an ideal day out for the kids. Also popular with youngsters is the Loro Parque aquarium which features sea-lions, dolphins, sharks and alligators. Despite the region's balmy temperatures, the centre also has the world's largest Penguinarium, where a daily snowfall of 12 tons of artificial flakes ensures its northern inhabitants stay cool.
