Visit the vibrant and historical Gran Via, feel like a celeb in the Museo Chicote cocktail bar, meet Placido Domingo, an international star with his roots in the Spanish capital... You can do all this and more when you visit Madrid, but now it's also possible at the click of a mouse via the international digital edition of esMadridmagazine, just launched by the Ayuntamiento de Madrid - the city's local council.
Published in English, the new on-line magazine aims to bring the attractions of the Spanish capital to readers and internauts around the planet. It is aimed at urban audiences aged from 25 to 45, and intended as a valuable source of information for those who are planning a trip or short break in Madrid and as a complement to the official tourist information portal of the capital.
The on-line magazine deals with five main areas: arts and culture, shopping, dining, entertainment and nightlife, and family. The first issue focuses on the Gran Via in its centenary year and the importance of this iconic city thoroughfare in terms of culture and architecture. Items are displayed in an intuitive way, with photo galleries, videos and fact sheets offering practical information. There is also an interview section which kicks off in this first edition with Placido Domingo; here some of Madrid's famous sons and daughters share their particular vision of the city.
In this first issue, the gastronomy section is devoted to Museo Chicote, and shows us step by step how to prepare one of the legendary cocktails Señoritas de Loewe devised in the golden age of the Gran Via to the delight of the young ladies who worked at the prestigious fashion house boutique, just two doors down from the cocktail bar. It also includes a slide show of old photos of Perico Chicote, the founder of the bar and museum, accompanied by some of the many society figures who drank there.
EsMadridmagazine also has a section devoted to shopping, this issue featuring the Las Salesas neighbourhood, just to the west of the great Paseo de Recoletos boulevard. Sections unfold to reveal paragraphs on boutiques, art galleries, restaurants and other places of interest that can be found in this area, as well as a video.
As well as a space devoted to games and activities for children and the family there is also a 'What's On' section, featuring major events scheduled during the next six months. The final pages invite you to discover a corner of Madrid through an interactive photo accompanied by a fact sheet and a video.
The eighteen pages that comprise this new digital magazine constitute a veritable kaleidoscope through which to discover - or rediscover - the city of Madrid.
