The New Seven Wonders of the World in a spectacular set of images

A global poll conducted three years ago set out to choose a new set of modern world wonders. The idea originated from Swiss filmmaker Bernard Weber, who launched the proposal in 1999 with the intent of updating the traditional list with some modern-day achievements. With the exception of the Great Pyramid of Giza, six of the seven ‘old’ wonders have been destroyed by natural causes.

In order to be featured on the new list, the nominated wonder had to have been built before the year 2000 and stand in an acceptable condition. The organisers claimed to have received over 100 million internet and telephone votes from members of the public. offers you the opportunity to take a look at not only the magnifcent winners of this unique competition, but also the equally amazing runners up who narrowly missed the cut.
