Until 1911 the ruins of Machu Picchu were a secret lost to the world at large. Nobody would have imagined that among the inaccessible ravines of the Cordillera de los Andes mountain range lay hidden one of the largest and most valuable archaeological treasures of the world. One hundred and thirty kilometres from Cuzco, the mystical Lost City of the Incas is no longer a secret, and this year is the 100th anniversary of its discovery by American explorer Hiram Bingham. A grand celebration is being prepared, which will have its climax in July, when international celebrities including the Peruvian Nobel Prize Winner for Literature, Mario Vargas Llosa, Sting and Paul McCartney have been invited to join in the activities. The grand festival is a few months off, but in anticipation, we invite you to take a look and discover this marvellous place through the photos in our gallery.
