In Brazil, life's a beach

Far removed from the non-stop rhythm and glamour of the Rio Carnival, Brazil boasts some of the most beautiful and peaceful beaches in the world.

From Jeri to Florianopolis, Brazil is home to beaches that border on perfection. Indeed, there are so many candidates for the title of 'most beautiful' that it would be hard to list them all, let alone rank them in any kind of order. Maybe this isn't surprising given that the country has more than 9,000 kilometres of coastline and most of the continent's beaches.  Maceio, Espelho, Porto Belo, Florianopolis, Ilha Grande, Fernando de Noronha, Itacare, Jericoacoara, Pipa, Porto de Galinhas... the exotic names of some of the most noteworthy. What is it that makes a beach appealing? The clear turquoise sea? Fine white sands?  Stunning sandstone cliffs? A fringe of coconut palms? Whether you're more interested in the activities on offer, from scuba diving to surfing to sailing, or whether you just want to lay back and enjoy the sunshine, Brazil has the place for you.
