This year 12 teams from the UK participated in the race including Duracell's team 2 Boys in a Boat. The crew was made up of two childhood friends and endurance sport fanatics, Luke Birch and Jamie Sparks.
On Monday 27 January 21-year-old Luke and 22-year-old Jamie crossed the finish line as overall fifth in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge and second in the pairs. The boys are now the youngest pair ever to row across the Atlantic, as well as Breast Cancer Care’s biggest ever individual fundraisers having raised over £300,000 for the charity.
Battling lifethreatening waves, 35 mile per hour winds, excruciating salt-sores and no more than 80 minutes sleep at a stretch the pair finally finished the race after 54 days of nonstop rowing.
Upon arrival the boys thanked Duracell and Jamie took the opportunity to praise his partner: "Luke and I are very similar and we both had this goal, I am very happy I did it with him. I could not have done it with anybody else. We are extremely happy."
