Johnny Depp and Amber Heard held an intimate wedding ceremony at their home in Los Angeles last week, and the pair set off for a more extravagant celebration on the Pirates of the Caribbean star's island in the Bahamas at the weekend, according to People magazine.

Around 50 guests were expected for the party on the 45-acre tropical paradise called Little Hall’s Pond Cay, a retreat that Johnny bought in 2004. With six private and pristine beaches, it's no wonder the handsome star opted for the hidden island to celebrate the pair's nuptials. Johnny has previously spoken of the beauty of his hideaway, and the sense of freedom it immediately instills. He told Vanity Fair in 2009: "I don't think I'd ever seen any place so pure and beautiful. You can feel your pulse rate drop about 20 beats. It's instant freedom."

The actor first spotted the island while shooting Pirates of the Caribbean in 2004, and later bought it for $3.6 million. He has since named its beaches after his children and former partner Vanessa Paradis, as well as his late friend and journalist Hunter S. Thompson and his legendary acting mentor, Marlon Brando.

As well as numerous beaches, the island boasts a palm tree-lined lagoon and the principal property with 360-degree views of the breathtaking surrounds, including of the little island Osprey Bird Rock, which the 51-year-old also owns. A few smaller residences and a small fleet of golf carts are also scattered across the island, which is solar-powered.

While wedding guests will no doubt be able to take in the beautiful sea vistas from the lush grounds of their host's private island, other activities they can get involved in include snorkelling with barracudas, neon-colored fish, and nurse sharks – what Johnny often does himself when he's there.
