Planning a last minute skiing trip

by hellomagazine.com

Spring is finally here and although most people are looking forward to the sun and the prospect of a beach getaway, ski enthusiasts are making the most of the snow before the season is over.

One place in Europe where snow is assured until late April is Megève, situated in the Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France.

Purpose-built nearly 100 years ago, as a French alternative to Switzerland's upmarket ski resort Saint-Moritz, Megève is today popular due to its beautifully preserved, medieval town centre as well as the luxurious restaurants and hotels it offers.

HELLO! Online takes a look at how to make the most out of the beautiful town and where to find the best pistes to enjoy what is left of this year's snow.

Popular activites

Apart from the obvious activities – skiing and snowboarding – Megéve offers unique experiences such as hot air balloon rides and dog sledging.

The hot air balloon takes thrill-seekers up to 1,500 and 2,500 metres. The ride lasts one hour - enough time to encounter the highest mountains of the Alps, as well as the chains of Mont Blanc, Aravis, Beaufortain, Bauges and Fiz.

How to get there

Getting to Megève is easy if you fly to its nearest airport, Geneva, which is an one hour drive via the Albertville-Chamonix motorway. Flights to Geneva are available from all London airports.

Hiring a car is recommended to explore the surrounding areas and take in the stunning views. The BMW 4 series convertible is a great option as it's fitted with heated neck warmers and steering wheel, meaning travellers can have the top down to enjoy the scenery while keeping warm.
