The 800-year-old castle was the perfect destination for Rory and Erica to say 'I do'; offering five-star luxury for the couple and their guests, the venue is also surrounded by 350 acres of gardens and woodland for privacy as well as a stunning backdrop for the all-important wedding photos.

Fittingly for the Northern-Irish golfer there is a nine hole golf course on the estate, however whether Rory enjoyed a pre-wedding round of golf remains to be known! According to Belfast Live, Rory and Erica booked out the five-star resort from Wednesday to Sunday, so would have plenty of time to enjoy the facilities, including lake cruising and kayaking along with some pampering at the award-winning spa ahead of their big day.

Ashford Castle would have provided an idyllic venue for the couple's big day, with a number of suitable dining rooms and restaurants including the underground Wine Cellars and impressive Oak Hall providing the perfect location for both the wedding breakfast and reception.

With exclusive access to the entire estate, Rory and Erica could have accommodated up to 160 guests in the castle's 83 bedrooms, suites and Lakeside Hideaway Cottage. They would have been able to take their pick of Ashford's luxurious guestrooms for their wedding suite including the Reagan Presidential Suite – named after former guest President Reagan – or even the romantic Hideaway Cottage which is nestled in the grounds of the castle with 180 degree views over the lake.

STORY: Rory McIlroy and Erica Stoll confirm engagement

Rory, 27, started dating blonde beauty Erica in 2014, although the couple were friends before. Speaking to the Irish Sunday Independent, Rory said: "The thing I love about it is that we were friends before anything romantic happened. We met when she was working for the PGA of America and renting a condo in Palm Beach, and I found it refreshing being with someone who was living a normal life rather than, 'Oh! My jet is 30 minutes late!' I could speak to her about anything, we ended up spending a bit of time together and realised that there was something more there."
