John Galliano fired by Dior over 'odious behaviour'

Tuesday March 1, 2011

The furor surrounding John Galliano's controversial remarks has gone a step further.

After emergency meetings at the iconic French brand, Christian Dior confirmed on Tuesday it has fired the embattled designer due to anti-semitic comments.

Dior's president Sidney Toledano released a statement announcing the termination of his contract in light of the "odious behaviour", which was captured on camera.

"I condemn most firmly the statements made by John Galliano which are total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the House of Christian Dior."

Natalie Portman also issued a statement publicly condemning the 50-year-old's behaviour, deeming it "disgusting".

The actress – who is the face of the Dior scent – planned on wearing a Galliano dress to the Oscars but changed her mind last minute after the video surfaced.
