Fashion's elite show support for John Galliano

Wednesday March 2, 2011

On Tuesday he was fired by iconic fashion label Christian Dior for his "odious behaviour".

And there has been a host of celebrities, including Natalie Portman, who have stepped up to express their disapproval over John Galliano's controversial remarks

But amidst these condemnations, several prominent names in fashion have come forward in the designer's defence.

Italian Vogue editor Franca Sozzani said the outburst was the result of aggravation: "He was clearly provoked, and filmed while obviously inebriated."

Giorgio Armani has expressed his sorrow, telling the Daily Telegraph he was "very, very sorry" to hear what had happened, adding that he "understands it's a difficult time."

Meanwhile, Sex and the City stylist Patricia Field is the latest to show support, telling WWD magazine it was just another example of the designer's "theatre."
