Olympian James Cracknell due home after accident

Thursday September 2, 2010

After a near fatal cycling accident in America, James Cracknell will return home by the end of this week.

The 38-year-old suffered a fractured skull and bruising to his brain, after a truck hit his bike.

James had been filming a new series in the US, called Cracknell's Race Across America , in which he was attempting to run, cycle and row across America in 13 days.

Following the accident, he was flown back to London and has been recovering in hospital.

His wife, Beverley Turner, praised her husband's "drive and determination" during the recovery process but has said that "the biggest challenge" is yet to come.

"Rest and recuperation are strange concepts to such an active man. But he is looking forward to being home with the children," she said, referring to their two children, Croyde, six, and Kiki, 16-months.
