William and Kate head to Denmark for UNICEF appeal

Wednesday November 2, 2011

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge headed to Copenhagen on Wednesday to take part in their first joint humanitarian mission.

And it's a cause that bears special significance to the couple, who will be accompanied by Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark.

William and Kate are travelling to the Danish capital to support UNICEF's East Africa crisis appeal.

They will tour the organisation's emergency supply centre and view efforts to distribute food and medical supplies to East Africa.

The region has a special place in the couple's hearts after they got engaged at Lake Rutundu near Mount Kenya last year.

William has been fond of Africa ever since spending three months travelling the continent during his gap year learning about wildlife and the environment.

The charity trip will be useful for Kate, who is learning the ropes before making a final decision next year on which organisations to support.
