Surrogacy in the spotlight: SJP gave Elton advice

Monday January 3, 2011

Having a child through a surrogate mother is a life-changing decision.

And with so much to consider – not least raising a child under the scrutiny of the press – Elton John and David Furnish sought advice from a famous friend before going ahead.

The couple turned to Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband Matthew Broderick, the Daily Mail reports, on the best way to deal with the process, including the pitfalls caused by their celeb status.

Sarah and Matthew famously had 18-month-old twins Marion and Tabitha through a surrogate mother.

"Sir Elton and David had become extremely interested in surrogacy by the time they spoke to Sarah and Matthew," a friend said.

"Even so, they were able to give them an insight into how they coped with a high-profile surrogacy, both the ups and the downs."

The musician, 63, and David, 48, welcomed their son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John on Christmas Day.

So far they have successfully managed to keep the identity of the surrogate mother a secret.
