Energy secretary Chris Huhne has resigned from the cabinet after being charged with perverting the course of justice over a speeding penalty in 2003.
The MP's former wife, Vicky Pryce, will also be facing the same charges after she accepted penalty points for him when their joint vehicle was caught on camera going over the speed limit.
Director of Public Prosecutions made this statement:
"The essence of the charges is that between March and May 2003, Mr Huhne, having allegedly committed a speeding offence, falsely informed the investigating authorities that Ms Pryce had been the driver of the vehicle in question, and she falsely accepted that she was the driver".
Ed Davey who is currently Business Minister is set to replace Mr Huhne's position.
Both Chris Huhne and Vicky Pryce are due to appear in court on February 16.
