Kate's 12-hour knock-off wedding dress

Tuesday May 3, 2011

Within 12 hours of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge arriving at Westminster Abbey to reveal the widely-anticipated dress, a lookalike version had already been created.

A.B.S. by Allen Schwatz is an American label known for whipping up versions of red carpet gowns for a cut of the price, and in record time.

Their team of 35 people worked together to rapidly create the gown (pictured right) that bears a striking resemblance to the fairytale dress that Kate sported on the big day.

They drew sketches, chose the fabrics and sewed the different parts together, citing their most difficult task as creating the triple-mesh veil.

The regal dress is set to retail for about $800 (£485) - a steal compared to the original price tag of £40,000 - and will be available in select Lord & Taylor stores in the US this July.
