Holly tipped to replace sofa-queen Fern Britton

Friday July 3, 2009

As Fern Britton's July 17 leaving date approaches, fans of This Morning have been waiting in anticipation to see who will replace the bubbly blonde.

Xtra Factor presenter Holly Willoughby is the hot favourite to take on the role, much to the delight of continuing This Morning presenter Philip Schofield, who already works with the 28-year-old on Dancing On Ice.

And she also has approval from Fern, who leaves the £750,000-a-year position on her 52nd birthday.

“I think Holly would be wonderful. She represents an enormous swathe of the audience,” she says.

Since Fern announced her decision to spend more time at home in March, the search for a suitable replacement has stretched far and wide across a host of celebs, including Davina McCall, Melanie Sykes and Fiona Phillips.

But it seems producers are now convinced that Holly is the best person for the job.

“We adore (her), but what is so great is that now she’s a mum she will have a lot more in common with many of our viewers." A show insider reveals.

“She’ll have added compassion and really be able to respond to our real-life stories.”
