Christine Bleakley 'knew 'Daybreak' ratings would drop'

GMTV was always going to be a tough act to follow.

And it seems breakfast show Daybreak is struggling to match the former ITV programme, as viewing figures slumped from one million to 530,000 viewers last week.

However, presenter Christine Bleakley is sure that the poor performance is down to nothing more than "teething problems".

Speaking at the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Woman of the Year Awards ceremony in London this week, the 31-year-old said: "It’s been a strange few months, it’s been rather up and down.

"But we always knew it was going to be hard. We knew going in that the ratings would drop, we were waiting for it – and people are treating it like it’s something unexpected.

"It’s always difficult to launch a new show and I’m exhausted – getting up at 3am every day takes its toll on you – but I’m not going anywhere."

In contrast, rival show BBC Breakfast had around 1.6 million viewers last week.
