Olivia Newton-John's missing ex found alive in Mexico

Patrick McDermott, the missing former long-term boyfriend of Grease star Olivia Newton-John, has been found alive in Mexico.

The former film lighting technician disappeared during a fishing trip on June 30, 2005, the day after ending his nine-year-relationship with the singer.

Now it has been revealed that he has spent the past five years living in the Mexican coastal town of Sayulita, where he's working on the crew of a tourist boat.

At the time, friends said Olivia was "devastated" after Patrick, then 48, was presumed drowned off the Californian coast.

But a private detective hired by a US TV network has received proof from him that he is alive south of the border and simply wants to be left alone.

"He was a very tranquil man," Jesus Rodriguez, a local fisherman who said he had seen Patrick several times, told The Sunday Telegraph.

"He kept himself to himself and didn't mess with people in this community.

"I was very surprised when I heard he had been in some kind of trouble. But then we heard it was just because he was the boyfriend of some American film star or something."
