Annette Charles, famous for her portrayal of Cha Cha DiGregorio in Grease, has passed away at 63.

The actress had been diagnosed with cancer shortly before her death.

It is understood that she died in Los Angeles due to complications caused by the cancerious tumour in her lungs.

In the beloved 1978 musical film, Annette's character is described as "the best dancer at St Bernadette's... with the worst reputation."

Cha Cha's most memorable moment comes when she steals Danny Zucco (John Travolta) from Sandy (Olivia Newton John) on the dancefloor.

Outside of Grease, Annette had a successful career in television.

She appeared on programmes like The Bionic Woman, The Flying Nun, Gunsmoke, Mod Squad, Emergency!, Barnaby Jones and Bonanza.

In 1978 she became a speech professor at the California State University in Northridge.

The news of her passing comes just two months after the death of her Grease co-star Jeff Conaway.
