Director Michael Winner considers assisted suicide

Friday October 5, 2012

Michael Winner has told a newspaper that he has considered taking his own life.

The movie director was told by liver specialists that he has eighteen months to live.

Michael, 76, was diagnosed with the illness vibrio vulnificus after eating a bad oyster on holiday in 2007.

The film veteran has discussed his research about entering Dignitas, a Swiss euthanasia clinic.

He said: "You don’t just go in and say “Here I am, do your worst”.

"You have to go through a whole series of papers and re-examinations just to die."

"You have to fill in forms and things and you have to fly there, go back twice."

The star also declared his support for assisted dying.

He said: "I think the idea that people should be able to have an assisted suicide is absolutely, highly proper."
