Madonna's on stage tribute to good friend Michael

Monday July 6, 2009

As the sad news of Michael Jackson's death hit the headlines last week, Madonna was one of the first celebrities to offer her fond memories and condolences.

And when she took to the stage at London's O2 arena - where the king of pop was due to perform his forthcoming gigs - this weekend, the Material Girl paid tribute to the late star once again.

Between performances of her own songs, the 50-year-old appeared with a Michael Jackson lookalike as she launched into a medley of his greatest hits.

Dressed in the iconic sequinned jacket and sparkling white glove, the impersonator, dancer Kento Mori, reinacted Michael's moonwalk to Billie Jean and Wanna Be Startin’ as Madonna cheered him on.

“Let’s give it up to one of the greatest artists the world has ever known - Michael Jackson. “Long live the king!” she said as photographs of Michael as a youngster flashed up on the big screen.

And in a final tribute, Madonna donned a jewelled glove as she took to the stage for her last song Give It 2 Me in front of the 17,000-strong crowd.
