Rapturous Madrid welcome for £80m football hunk Cristiano

Tuesday July 7, 2009

The vacuum left by David Beckham 's departure from Spain has now be filled by a footballer who is as suave as the England ace.

Former Man Utd player Cristiano Ronaldo, pictured here with a fan against the heat, was given a rousing reception when he arrived at new club Real Madrid.

There wasn't a spare seat at Madrid's 80,000-capacity Bernabeu stadium on Monday as the world's most expensive footballer was presented with his team shirt.

Like Becks, the Portuguese player is known beyond the football world for his good looks, metrosexual grooming and popularity with the ladies.

And the delight of the Spanish fans welcoming Cristiano was clear for all to see as the sportsman joined his new football family.

"Cristiano is best," the fans said after queuing for hours in the 36 degree heat to see him.

Before treating the crowd to some impressive ball skills, the 24-year-old footie ace told them he had made his "childhood dream a reality".

And it's not just football fans that Cristiano has been impressing. As news broke of his record-breaking £80-million transfer from Manchester United last month, he was spotted celebrating the deal with US socialite Paris Hilton.

The pair were seen sharing lashings of Cristal champagne and canoodling in an LA club before retreating to the home of Paris' sister, which the sporty hunk left at 5am.
