Rocker to writer: Keith Richards feted by pal Johnny

Johnny Depp has presented a gong to his friend Keith Richards, the rocker who inspired his Pirates of the Caribbean performance.

Rolling Stone guitarist Keith, who recently wrote an account of his life as a hellraiser in autobiography Life, was named writer of the year at the GQ Men of the Year awards.

The ceremony, held at London's Royal Opera House, was attended by stars including Charlize TheronEmma Watson, Kylie Minogue, and Britain's Got Talent judge Michael McIntyre.

Doctor Who's Matt Smith won the most stylish man award, while Professor Brian Cox received TV personality of the year.

Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch won best actor, Tinie Tempah got the solo artist gong and actor Bradley Cooper was named international man.

Duran Duran took the lifetime achievement gong.

Other winners at the event, hosted by David Mitchell, included woman of the year for Lara Stone - whose husband David Walliams is currently swimming the Thames.

All the awards are voted for by staff at GQ magazine, except most stylish man, which was chosen by readers.
