Sally Bercow's husband 'supportive' of new TV show

Friday September 7, 2012

Wife of the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sally Bercow, will be hosting a new TV series about the international gypsy community.

Hosting alongside former Celebrity Big Brother contestant Paddy Doherty, Sally has revealed that her husband was more pleased with her new TV venture.

She said: "He wasn't very happy about Celebrity Big Brother, but I know John is very proud and thinks it was a storm in a teacup."

However, the budding Labour MP feels blessed to now have her husband's support.

She said: "He was very supportive. I don't assess and analyse his work and he doesn't analyse mine.

"I just said, 'Honey, I'm off doing this. I've got the childcare sorted' and he said, 'OK, that's fine'.

"I'm very lucky. He's incredibly supportive, my husband."

The four-part show, entitled Paddy and Sally's Excellent Gyspy Adventure, will see the pair visit a host of countries, including Italy, Hungary and Malaysia, to explore local gyspy customs.

Sally believes that her and Paddy have bonded due to feeling like outsiders in their communities.

She said: "I feel like a fish out of water in Westminster. And Paddy being a traveller makes him feel like he is outside of mainstream society. We're both slightly rebellious and very outspoken."

The first episode of Paddy and Sally's Excellent Gyspy Adventure will be aired on Channel Five on Wednesday, September 12.
