Sweet Dreams: Annie Lennox to get Inspiration Award

Friday October 7, 2011

She once sang: "Sweet dreams are made of this…".

And Annie Lennox will no doubt take pride in seeing her efforts to make the world a better place recognised.

The pop star is set to receive a lifetime achievement honour at the Inspiration Awards for Women.

The Scottish legend is best known for her glittering music career with the Eurythmics, but she is also a passionate philanthropist and has spent many years campaigning for humanitarian causes.

It's not the first time she's had her work rewarded; the singer was appointed an OBE last year (pictured) for fighting Aids and poverty in Africa, and will follow in the footsteps of past winners Barbara Windsor and Vivienne Westwood.

Other female stars and public figures nominated for awards include Samantha Cameron, Victoria Beckham, Tracey Emin, Jennifer Saunders, Kate Winslet and Stella McCartney.

The ceremony, which raises money for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity, will be hosted by former tennis star Andrew Castle and Sky News presenter Sarah-Jane Mee.
