Wayne Rooney 'relaxed and calm' after dad's arrest

Friday October 7, 2011

The father of England footballer, Wayne Rooney, has been arrested on suspicion of being involved in betting irregularities.

Wayne Rooney Sr., whose son earns £180,000-a-week playing for Manchester United, is being investigated over claims that he placed bets with inside knowledge of a Scottish League fixture.

He was detained along with nine other men, one of whom was the player’s uncle, Richie.

The allegations come as Wayne is in Montenegro gearing up for England’s 2012 European qualifier.

England coach, Fabio Capello, has assured fans that it won’t affect his performance.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the fixture, the Italian said, “I spoke with him just five minutes ago and I found him relaxed and calm.”

Wayne Sr. denies the allegations against him, while his footballer son has yet to comment directly.
