Wednesday December 7, 2011

A choir of military wives has become the bookies' favourite for the Christmas number one – after edging ahead of the eventual winner of the X Factor.

A flurry of bets has pushed the group's single Wherever You Are into prime position, according to new figures issued by bookies William Hill.

They are releasing the track after touching hearts during the BBC2 series The Choir: Military Wives.

The ensemble is made up of the wives of serving military personnel.

They went performed the Royal Albert Hall after being coached by choral maestro Gareth Malone.
Celebrities including Radio 2 presenter Chris Evans have been urging listeners to support the single.

And they will have the extra boost of an appearance on the Sunday results show for the Strictly Come Dancing semi-finals.

The ladies have also performed for the Prime Minister at Downing Street.

The CD of the single is being released by Decca Records on December 19, with all profits going to the Royal British Legion and Soldiers' and Sailors' Forces Help.
