Piers Morgan's Olympic donation reaches £22K

Wednesday August 8, 2012

Piers Morgan's donation to Great Ormond Street Hospital has reached £22,000.

The chat show host pledged to donate £1,000 during the Olympics everytime a British winner sings the National Anthem on the podium.

The 47-year-old made the pledge after he engaged in a debate on Twitter, complaining that not enough medal winners were singing the anthem.

On Tuesday Piers gave an update on the total, tweeting: "All 3 #TeamGB Dressage gold medal winners sang the anthem. Splendid!

"Another £3k to @GreatOrmondSt – Total now £22k #AnthemHeroes."

He added that it felt "strange" to be watching the Games and wanting someone to sing the anthem, despite "knowing it will cost you another £1,000..."

The charity tweeted him saying: “Thank you for thinking of @GreatOrmondSt again, Piers. As always, it’s really appreciated.”
